3 - 2 - 1  COMPETITION @ Medway Park, Gillingham
Sunday 21st July, 2013
A major change took place this year to the 3-2-1 competition run by Kent County S.M.B.A,
it was decided to run the event on one day as opposed to the previous years where it was
run as a knockout competition around the village halls and community centres, this meant a
complete new format had to be introduced, each team consisted of six players, one singles,
one pairs and one triples. On arrival the team captain choose a disc to indicate who they
would be playing against though out the day, the new format was a random team and mat
selection over 16 mats, each discipline had to play four games against different opponents
and on different mats. The winning team being the highest aggregate team score.

This FREE event was organised by the County short mat bowls association to show the facilities available at the new  competition and
coaching venue at Maidstone.  With forty two triples teams taking part from Clubs and organisations throughout the County, plus
a visiting team from Cyprus. The match was a very close run thing with any one of fourteen teams in line to win the Trophy, two teams
just pulled ahead at the very end. Winning team, skipped by Barbara Schultz from Joydens Wood, 10 points +45 shots, second place,
Colin Barry and his team from Ditton, 9 points +24 shots. The next 12 places all finished on 8 points with only a small shot difference
separating them. The general feedback from the bowlers taking part, was, what a fantastic new  venue for the future of  Kent short mat
bowling.
